What you’ll be doing

We are seeking experienced TIG Welders to join a mechanical engineering company based in Wiri, Auckland. You will be responsible for TIG welding and general pipe fitting work across mechanical and piping projects.

The role primarily involves working with carbon steel pipe, with occasional stainless steel work. Successful candidates must be confident working from drawings and be prepared to complete a practical pipe welding test as part of the recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities Perform high-quality TIG welding on pipework, primarily carbon steel and occasionally stainless steel. Complete general pipe fitting, fabrication and installation work. Read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols and pipe specifications. Measure, cut, prepare, align and fit pipes accurately before welding. Carry out pipe preparation, including grinding, beveling, cleaning and tack welding. Complete root, fill and cap welds to the required quality standards. Ensure welds meet project specifications and maintain a high standard of workmanship. Use welding equipment, hand tools and workshop machinery safely and correctly. Inspect completed welds and identify any defects or areas requiring rework. Work collaboratively with fitters, welders and other mechanical engineering personnel. Follow site safety procedures, welding procedures and company quality requirements. Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area. About You Proven experience as a TIG Welder, particularly in pipe welding. Strong experience with carbon steel pipe. Stainless steel welding experience is advantageous. Solid understanding of pipe fitting and fabrication. Ability to read and work from engineering drawings. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable, physically fit and safety-focused. Must be willing and available to complete a practical pipe welding test. Relevant welding qualifications or trade certification will be advantageous. What We Offer Competitive pay rate based on your experience and skill level. Consistent 10-hour shifts, 5 days per week.
